Do you only book
bands that are on Think Fast! Records?
No, our roster consists of both bands that are affiliated with the
label and bands that have no affiliation with the label.
I just noticed that _______ is going on tour. Can my band open?
Most agents don't book the local support/opening bands for their
touring bands. It would be way too time consuming, so often it is left up to the local promoter. Keep in mind that most of the time
that you hear about tours is after they're already being promoted and on
sale (and therefore usually with a full bill) so to get on your local
promoters radar, send them your demo and tell them why you'd be good to
open a future show. If it's a bigger tour, tell them that you'll sell
tickets to your friends. Promoters love it when local bands help bring
in a crowd/sell tickets, some of them even require it. This is a good
way to build yourself up in your local scene, which you should
absolutely do before going out on tour! If no one has heard of you
locally how would they know about you elsewhere?
My band just recorded our demo in my garage so I think we're ready
to go on tour. Can you help or at least send us a bunch of your contacts?
Bands really ask me this. It's annoying. Please stop. And did you read
the previous question? You should! Again, before you go on
tour, build yourself up in your local scene! If your songs are good and
you put on a good live show, odds are it'll start to catch on. From
there, branch out and play a little bit further out of town. Before you
know it you'll start to meet other bands and make your own connections.
What do you look for when you pick up new bands?
Aside from loving the bands music, the main things I look for are:
1. Tour history. It is under very rare circumstances that any
booking agent picks up a band who hasn't already booked their own tours.
It's important for your band to build a foundation for itself before you
start asking for favors! Trust me, 99% of the successful bands out there
put in a lot
of DIY (Do-It-Yourself) effort before they started hiring people to work
for them! And the other 1% are probably lame.
2. Label backing. I'm not currently working with bands who don't have
the backing of a record label. I'm not saying you need to have a fifty
thousand dollar marketing budget for your record, but there's just not
enough time in the day for me to focus on bands who don't have an album
to promote.
My band has done a ton of DIY touring, has an established fanbase, and
we're signed to a decent record label. Can you check out our music?
Yes, EMAIL me a link to
your music (MySpace, etc) and please do not send large attachments.
Also, please do not call to pitch your band - if I'm not interested it
will likely be awkward for you and no one wants to be put on the spot! Also,
keep in mind that Think Fast! Booking is generally a one-man-operation, so
please do not get offended if I don't reply to your e-mail. I'm not
trying to be arrogant, but I get a
million emails a day and it would be impossible to reply to each one of
them while still managing to find time to book tours.
